Structure Fire at the Wickland Compound

On 07/21/2017 at 0035 hours, the Bardstown Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire behind the Wickland Home. When fire crews arrived, the found heavy fire venting out the front window and through the roof. Crews used multiple hand lines to bring the fire under control. Due to the balloon frame and heavy timber construction it took fire crews several hours to get the fire under control. An investigation was conducted and there were two different points of origin which caused the investigator to suspect arson. An arson detection K-9 was brought in from Scott County. The K-9 detected accelerants at numerous spots in the kitchen and deck area. Evidence was collected and taken to the KSP lab for analysis. Bardstown Police conducted the criminal investigation and an arrest was made on 07/22/2017. Fire crews were on scene for about ten and half hours.

Structure Fire 100 Block of Purcell Ave

On 07/17/2017 at 1041 hours, the Bardstown Fire Department was dispatched for a report of smoke in the kitchen in the 100 block of Purcell Ave. First arriving companies reported heavy smoke showing with fire venting out the front window. Crews used an 1 3/4″ hand line to extinguish the fire and conducted extensive overhaul. Five cats perished in the fire. The Fire Marshal investigated the fire and it appeared that the fire started int he laundry room and extended out into the kitchen. The exact cause is undetermined. Crews were on scene for about two and half hours.

Fire behind Tractor Supply

On 06/04/2017 at 1837 hours, the Bardstown Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a fire next to a dumpster and Tractor Supply. When crews arrived on scene, the found a pile of pallets on fire next to Tractor Supply. Crews extinguished the fire and notified the City Fire Marshal to conduct an investigation into the cause of the fire. Crews were on scene for about a half hour and the fire is still under investigation.

Vehicle Fire at Flaget Hospital

On 06/04/2017 at 1152 hours, the Bardstown Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a vehicle fire in the parking lot of Flaget Hospital. When fire crews arrived on scene the owner had extinguished what had appeared to be a small fire under the hood. Crews checked the vehicle for hot spots and were on scene for about a half hour.

Structure Fire 700 Block of Beechwood Ave

On 06/04/2017 at 0945 hours, the Bardstown Fire Department was dispatched to the 700 block of Beechwood Avenue for a reported structure fire fully involved. When crews arrived on scene they found heavy smoke showing from the eaves and roof line of the structure. Crews made entry and found heavy fire in the kitchen area with it extending to the back porch roof. Crews extinguished the fire and conducted salvage and overhaul. An investigation was conducted and was determined that unattended cooking caused the fire on top of the stove top. Crews were on scene for about 2 hours.

Vehicle Extrication 23mm Bluegrass Parkway

On 05/11/2017 at 1124 hours, the Bardstown Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a injury accident, vehicle versus tractor trailer with possible three people entrapped. When fire crews arrived on scene, they found an overturned passenger vehicle with four patients and a tractor trailer embedded into the woods on the west bound side of the roadway. Crews found four patients in the passenger vehicle with only one being viable. State Police was investigating the scene and the cause of the accident. Crews were on scene for 3.5 hours.

Vehicle Fire 200 Block of W John Fitch

On 05/10/2017 at 0913 hours, the Bardstown Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a vehicle fire near a commercial structure in the 200 block of W John Fitch. When the first unit arrived, the owner of the commercial structure had discharged a fire extinguisher into the engine compartment extinguishing most of the fire. Crews used a water extinguisher to extinguish all other hot spots. A nest was found in the engine compartment and is believed to be the cause of the fire. Crews were on scene for about 20 minutes.

Pallet Fire at the rear of Wal-Mart

On 05/03/2017 at 1957 hours, the Bardstown Fire Department responded to a report of pallets on fire at the rear of Wal-Mart. When fire crews arrived they found approximately 25 pallets on fire. Crews extinguished the fire and conducted overhaul. An investigation is under way to determine the cause of the fire. Juveniles were seen in the area. Crews were on scene for about an hour.

Vehicle Fire 100 Block of Kenton Dr

On 04/30/2017 at 1839 hours, the Bardstown Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a vehicle on fire near a residence in the 100 block of Kenton Dr. When crews arrived, the owner had most of the fire extinguished. Crews overhauled the vehicle and extinguished any hot spots. Crews were on scene for about 20 minutes.

Vehicle Fire in Taco Bell Parking Lot

On 04/22/2017 at 1320 hours, the Bardstown Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle on fire in the parking lot of Taco Bell located at 171 W John Rowan Blvd. Upon arrival of the first due engine there was heavy fire in the engine compartment. Crews extinguished the fire and conducted overhaul. Crews were on scene for about 40 minutes.
