Mosquito Fogging Program

The City of Bardstown will begin our mosquito fogging program on June 21st, 2023 and will continue with the fogging every three (3) weeks until the first frost of winter.

The City will begin fogging, as weather permits, from dusk until dawn on the following Wednesdays:

  • June 21st
  • July 12th
  • August 2nd
  • August 23rd
  • September 13th
  • October 4th
  • October 25th (if necessary)

During fogging operations, please keep children away from the fogging vehicle, go inside and remain indoors while the fogging vehicle is in your neighborhood. We will not fog in the areas where residents have indicated health issues or concerns. If you would like to be added to the “No Fog List” please call City Hall at (502) 348-5947.

The City uses the product DUET™ to fog for mosquitos.
DUET™ is a dual-action adulticide designed to maximize control of nuisance and disease-carrying mosquitoes. DUET™ combines two actives: sumithrin, the active ingredient in Anvil™, and prallethrin, known for its superior knockdown. These two actives work in concert to provide excellent control under a variety of operating conditions. Anvil™ is a mosquito spray product by the same company that the Health Department has used successfully for several years. Initial field trial and cage trial observations have shown that DUET™ causes “benign agitation” – a non-biting excitation of mosquitoes. Benign agitation has the potential to draw mosquitoes from a resting state – possibly including mosquitoes never before factored into efficacy calculations -- into on-the-wing activity. When mosquitoes are flying rather than resting, more of the spray comes in contact to kill them. DUET™ has the same environmental profile as Anvil™, which is widely regarded as having minimal environmental impact. No special steps need to be taken by residents in areas where DUET™ is applied, and you can go outside immediately after DUET™ has been sprayed. Very little DUET™ is required for superior control -- one to just over three tablespoons of formulated product treats an area the size of a football field. A distinct advantage for late-season applications, DUET™ also demonstrates an ability to maintain its efficacy even in colder weather. This gives improved coverage for early- and late-season applications – prime time for combating West Nile Virus. DUET™ can be applied via ground or air, and can be applied neat or diluted. DUET™ is registered by the EPA for public health outdoor mosquito control, and is widely registered in states throughout the U.S.
