Fire Department
The Fire service is long standing in Bardstown with dates ranging
all the way back to 1805 when the first fire department was established
in the city. Fire fighting and rescue services for this community
is provided by the City of Bardstown Volunteer Fire Department which
operates inside the city limits of Bardstown and the Bardstown-Nelson
County Volunteer Fire Department, Inc., which operates in a 220
square mile district outside Bardstown. They also spend at least
four hours on two Monday nights each month training to keep their
skills honed for when the call for help goes out.
The City department maintains an eight man full-time crew and a
three man part-time crew from 8:00 am-4:00 pm Monday thru Friday
with the rest of the time being covered by volunteers. The Corporation
department is maintained solely by volunteers who respond when needed.
