Christmas in Bardstown is a magical time! Downtown is transformed into a winter wonderland with elaborate twinkling shop window displays. The community comes together for events and celebrations almost every day. To kick off your holiday season, here are some Bardstown events that are free and open to the public to get you in the holly jolly mood.

Kick off the Christmas season with the official lighting of the City of Bardstown’s Christmas tree, lamppost wreaths, stars and frolicking deer. Includes music and family Christmas Corner. Santa will make an appearance! Select shops will be open late!

FRIDAY, NOV 29th

BARTON 1792 DISTILLERY: MAKING SPIRITS BRIGHT BY LANTERN LIGHT

Join us after the Light Up Bardstown festivities for hot cocoa and other holiday refreshments at our visitor center. Lantern-lit tours of our distillery and one of our aging warehouses will be available along with live music on the patio. Free admission.

CITY COUNCIL UPDATES:

At the meeting on 11/12/19 the council:
  • Honored longstanding City Councilman Francis Lydian who passed away in October. The conference room at the City's new fire station will be named in honor of Mr. Lydian. The council also honored longtime Fire Chief Arch Pendergrass by naming the entrance road to the new station "Arch Pendergrass Way."
     
  • Donated $1,000 for music and lighting at Light Up Bardstown.
     
  • Approved change orders for work on a water tank and a pump station. Total cost: $3,340.
     
  • Approved an agreement for water and wastewater planning and design. This is for improvements in the downtown area. Total cost: $136,938.
     
  • Had a first reading of the Contract Water Service Rates Ordinance that would adjust wholesale rates over the next five years.
     
  • Heard a report from the committee to hire a Chief Financial Officer. They hope to have the position filled by mid-December.
     
  • Approved Pat Hagan to serve on the Historic Review Board.
     
  • Heard a report from Councilwoman Hart regarding her plan for a "steering committee" to address the opioid crisis. The committee will be lead by Betty Hart and Kenny Fogle and will include the Bardstown police and fire chiefs. 
     
  • Approved funding for half the cost of a 55-foot long "Welcome to Bardstown" sign at the airport. the Tourist Commission and the Air Board will each pay one-fourth of the cost. The City's contribution: $5,750.
