The Bardstown Police Department is a progressive department
dedicated to making the City of Bardstown a safe community to live
in and a great place to call home. The Police Department is staffed
with 23 sworn personnel and 2 non-sworn personnel.
The Administrative Division consists of the Chief of Police,
Charles Marksbury, who presides over the police department. Chief
Marksbury has 20+ years of experience and knowledge. Chief Marksbury
has been Chief of Police for the last 8 years. The Captain of Police
or Assistant Chief is Will Strunk. The Captain's responsibilities
include the supervision of the police department and maintaining
the evidence room. The Third Shift supervisors are Patrol Sergeant
Ray Lewis and Patrol Sergeant Chris Brandon.
The Criminal Investigations Division consists of three detectives
who work 1st and 2nd shifts. At least one detective is on call 24/7
rotating every other week to ensure coverage for the City. Detective
Sergeant Tom Roby is also assigned to the Greater Hardin County
Drug Task Force. Detective Sergeant Roby investigates all illegal
drug activity reported to the Bardstown Police Department. Detective
Barbara Roby and Detective Larry Coombs specialize in all felony
investigations that include crimes against persons and property.
The Patrol Division consists of 16 officers who perform daily
police duties. These duties include, but are not limited to, traffic
enforcement, investigating injury and non-injury accidents, responding
to calls for service, domestic situations, assaults, etc. Patrol
Officers work four, ten-hour days and have overlapping hours during
peak hours. The three shifts are: 1st 7am-5pm; 2nd 4pm-2am; and
3rd 9pm- 7am.
The K9 Officer is used to reduce drug activity in the City
of Bardstown. The K9 can be used to search cars, houses, and many
other areas in a short amount of time requiring patrol officers
to be tied up less and keeping manpower at it highest peak. For

The Dare Officer teaches children drug abuse prevention and
provides students with skills necessary to resist negative peer
pressure, avoid temptation and also how to deal with violence. For

The Explorer Program is a career education program for young
men and women who are between the ages of 14 and 20 and are interested
in learning about or possibly becoming a police officer. The program
helps young people mature and prepares them to become responsible

The Administrative Assistant runs the record sections of
the police department and takes care of the day-to-day report requests.
The hours to pick up reports are: 8am-4:30pm Monday thru Friday.
