Evidence / Property

The Evidence and Property Section is responsible for logging and storing property that is classified as evidence connected with case investigations, search warrants, or seized as contraband. The evidence custodian is responsible for insuring the integrity of evidence submitted and must coordinate its release when it is necessary to present it as exhibits during trials.

Property may also be classified as found or for safekeeping. This property will be logged into the evidence room until the owner can be located and the property returned to them.

CLAIMING YOUR PROPERTY
Property is released only to the legal owner of the property or their designee and by appointment only. If property is being held as evidence in a criminal case, it will not be released without a court order from either the Nelson District Court or Nelson Circuit Court, depending on which court is handling the case. After you make an appointment with the evidence custodian, bring a copy of the court order along with a valid photo I.D. to the Bardstown Police Department to obtain your property.

The office hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 9:00 am - 3:00 pm.  You can contact Evidence Property Technician Megan Wells, at (502) 348-6811 or by email, megan.wells@bardstownky.gov , to schedule an appointment to claim your property.
