Oreo on the bumper

On June 25th of 2018 the Bardstown Fire Department welcomed an new member to the department, a new Dalmation pup.   Local school kids were given the opportunity to name him and they gave him the name OREO.  Dalmations have long been a part of the fire service and were initially used during the horse drawn fire wagon days.  Dalmations would clear the way for the horses as they sped down the street.  Of course, the days of the horse drawn wagons are long gone, but the tradition of the dalmation still stays strong in the fire service even today.  Oreo is the first dalmation to be a part of Bardstown Fire Department in over 100 years.  Oreo will be used as a source of comfort for families who have experienced a tragic and dramatic event.  We look forward to Oreo's help in supporting our community and the citizens we serve.  Follow Oreo on Facebook at Oreo Bardstown Fire Dog or on Instagram at  Bardstown Fire Dog.

Oreo got to be with the clydesdale horse during the 2019 Bourbon Festival.
