Kentucky receives approximately $15.8 billion per year in funding for 55 of the more than 300 federal programs using census data. These allocations account for at least $2,021 per Kentuckian. An undercount of just 1 percent of our population, or about 45,000 people, would cost Kentucky almost $91 million a year -- and Kentucky would experience this loss for ten years.

April 1st is census day and as of March 30th, 2020, Nelson County’s response rate was only 41.8%. Getting a complete and accurate census count is critically important. That's why your response is required by law. If you do not respond, the U.S. Census Bureau will follow up in person to collect your response.

Why is the census so important? The results are used to determine how much funding Bardstown and Nelson County receive for key public services and how many seats each state gets in Congress. And while you are required by law to participate, the Census Bureau is also required by law to protect your answers. Your responses are used only to produce statistics. The Census Bureau does not disclose any personal information.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE.
Once your Census invitation arrives, you can respond from home in one of three ways: online, by phone, or by mail. When you respond to the census, you’ll tell the Census Bureau where you live as of April 1, 2020. Respond to the census and find more information at 2020census.gov.
