How do I know my meter is being read accurately?
Check your bill to see when your meter is typically read. Usually meters are read around the 15th for Cycle 1 billing customers and around the 1st of the month for Cycle 2 billing customers. Based on what part of the month the meter is read, you can read your meter at that time and compare to what your bill shows. The two readings should be close based on the actual time and date each are read. If there are significant differences, please call City Hall at (502) 348-5947.
What happens if I can't pay my bill on time?
Payment extensions may be allowed in certain circumstances. Call City Hall (502) 348-5947 to speak to one of our customer service representatives for more information.
Can I check for a leak myself?
Yes. Make sure no water is running. Turn off all faucets and water-consuming appliances – even your automatic ice maker. Read your water meter. Write down the current reading. Read the meter again after 30 to 60 minutes. If the meter reading has changed, you have a leak.
If I have a leak, do I have to pay for that water?
City of Bardstown allows for one bill adjustment for a leak per customer. Fill out the water leak adjustment form and submit to City Hall.
